How payouts work
Art Collective uses Stripe Connect for every payout. When a collector buys your work, the payment goes into your Stripe Connect balance. After the payout hold (see below) it's transferred automatically to the bank account you connected during onboarding, typically landing within 1–3 business days depending on your bank.
You don't need to invoice anyone, chase anything, or handle the card transaction yourself. Stripe does all of that; your dashboard just shows the balance, the pending payouts, and the history.
The 14-day hold
Payouts release 14 days after the collector confirms delivery. Not at charge, not at ship — at delivery confirmation. That window matches the collector's return period, so by the time the money is yours, the sale has settled.
If a collector doesn't actively confirm delivery, the hold still releases automatically a short period after carrier-confirmed delivery, so a forgetful buyer doesn't strand your payout forever.
Commission
On paid plans (Starter, Professional, Studio) the commission is a flat 10% per sale. On the Free plan it's 15%. There are no hidden fees on top of that. Stripe's standard card-processing fees apply to the transaction itself — those are Stripe's fees, not ours, and we don't mark them up. See commission and fees for the full breakdown.
VAT
Art Collective doesn't collect VAT on your behalf today — you configure it yourself in your Stripe settings. Two common cases:
- Below your country's VAT threshold. You don't need to register for VAT, and you don't charge it. Your listing price is the price the collector pays.
- Above the threshold (VAT-registered). You set your VAT rate in Stripe; invoices issued to your collectors show VAT as a line item. Your listing price is considered VAT-inclusive unless you configure it otherwise.
If you sell internationally, VAT gets more complicated — particularly EU-to-UK and UK-to-EU. Check the rules that apply to your own tax residency, and if you're unsure, speak to your accountant before setting up VAT in Stripe.
Income tax
You are responsible for reporting and paying income tax on your earnings. Art Collective doesn't withhold tax. Your dashboard lets you export sales history as CSV; pass that to your accountant or plug it into your own bookkeeping.
